| When I came across this vineyard it was in really bad condition. I knew it had great potential because technically it had all the things I had been looking for. Even though; ravaged by kangaroos, rabbits and without any water, in it’s first year - I produced a wonderful wine. There is a powerful minerality that runs through this wine, perhaps due to the fact it is the highest altitude vineyard on the Western side of the Barossa. This vineyard even attains a level of lignification in the stems allowing for whole bunch fermentation. The alcohol is always at around 13.5% and these unique characters allow me the opportunity to take this wine to a level comparable with the great Syrah wines of the world. Deeper Crimson than The Blonde; medium – to full-bodied, and offers very different fruit, with blackberry and licorice to the fore, but also having a lift to the finish that adds a beam of light to illuminate the wine; 66 cases made. Screwcap. 14% Alc. Rating 96 To 2026. James Halliday - Australian Wine Companion 2010 Medium deep colour. A strongly scented wine with smoky, elderberry, roasted meat, earthy aromas. Juicy elderberry, meat. aniseed, earthy flavours, fine lacy, chalky tannins and plenty of savour, cedar nuances. Finishes long, sweet and minerally. The Brunette Moppa Shiraz shows the hearty fruit characters and chocolaty structures of the Western side of the Barossa. It is a serious wine that should cellar and develop for another five to ten years plus. 91 points. Andrew Caillard – M.W. Purchase Wines |
